Detailed Description
Jean Shepherd (1921-1999) was one of the greatest storytellers of all time. His WOR (New York) radio show reached fans in 38 states. Shepherd also performed live in Carnegie Hall, at the Limelight in Greenwich Village and at colleges and conferences. These CDs capture two of these live performances.
CD 1: Jean Shepherd at the Airlie Seminar* on the Art of Radio (1977), a meeting of public radio producers and managers.
Track 1: Shepherd tells his signature story, “Little Orphan Annie and the Secret Decoder Ring,” about a boy's loss of innocence.
Track 2: In the Q&A, Shepherd dismisses radio as "just a bunch of goddamn wires," protesting that radio was not his medium. The audience disagrees.
CD 2: Jean Shepherd at NYU (1975)
Track 1: Shepherd expounds on college life, including a Fig Newton eating contest with disasterous consequences.
